Bilbo, she should have you on the payroll.i eulogise your very eulogies. thankyou for verbalising one of the greatest live music experiences of my life. it was 240 mins mentally videotaped taking a while to absorb... big up the polly, big up the twister, but don't forget mick. i put my fingers in my ears sometimes to get definition and he is a RIGHTEOUS player. i swear i don't think i could have seen her play in a better musical context. that is entirely down to these two gentlemen. all this past revisited calls to mind Keith Richards who says he gets up one morning, potters around, then dials up a killer riff and thinks: 'how come i didn't think of that one 30 years ago?' that idea in itself is invigorating....

Oh it was so fabulous! Only my second time seeing Polly but definitely better than Reading. Some of you seem to have been standing in the same kind of location to me - I was slightly to the right of the stage about two people back. The most conspicuous landmark I can give you is that I was near a blonde, very drunk woman drinking tequila out of a pint glass! I have long brown hair and I was wearing a white sweater with rainbow stripes on it. Just thought I'd affirm everyone's accounts of how great it was. I didn't notice any problems with the sound but then I was right near the front. And that dress... good heavens! Glad you all enjoyed it ~ Jess IP: Logged |

Wow! What a gig! Never have i seen her do such a varied set! I mean so much old stuff - it was fantastic! And it has spurred me on to finally investigate a BB and look what i found - true fans! Hi-ya! Thanks for all the information and pictures, it was like reliving it all over again! Dolly Parton - did anybody else get that?! Well thanks for the memories, see you at the next one X IP: Logged |

Hehe yes I remember someone shouting that out from the crowd (wasn't you was it? )and Polly's incredulous response! Oh and the fireworks at the end of the night ... and unfortunately the Avid Merrion type near me who kept shouting "Polly you are the greatest!" and headbanging like a loon Did you see someone throw a bouquet of flowers on stage? Polly seemed to pretend not to see it. Initially I thought it was a bit mean of her not to pick it up but then I thought maybe she worries about people being too obsessive and didn't want to reciprocate too much ... *shrug* IP: Logged |

Too right I want to see them. The one of where she's playing the Gretsch (At least I think it is) is beyond words. I'm off to Reading this weekend but now I'm worried every band is going to sound dull in comparison. IP: Logged |

Hehe, cheers Bob. Yeah Mick Harvey was superb too, it was my second time seeing him (the other was with Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds a few years ago), and on both occasions he seemed to be a very central stronghold of both bands, a very strong foil or support system for the main noisemakers.
By the way I saw this guy at the gig who was tall, early 30s, short brown hair, wearing shorts and a very cool PJ T-shirt with three small pics of her, Rob and Steve from the early three-piece days (she had her hair in a bun). And I thought to myself for some strange reason, “That’s how I picture Bob from the PJ forum.” But then I remembered you saying you couldn’t make it and assumed you weren’t gonna be at the gig at all. It wasn’t you by any chance, no?

This feels strange knowing so many of you posters were there at the gig with me. I arrived at the Eden Project around 3pm and stayed silent for the next seven hours, didn't open my mouth to a soul. I wouldn't really know what to say to anyone though. My first time out of the country alone and certainly my first time going to a gig alone. It was a really big adventure and it's hard getting back to mundane routine duties now, after the earth has been ripped from under your feet.IP: Logged |

missed opportunity man. i was there by myself too. no that wasn't me tho' you got the description about right.as she left the stage she looked over and i gave her a 'yes ma'am' type army salute. she smiled sweetly back at me and waved. it was DEFINITELY me she was smiling/waving at, not the 300 or so other ppl in my general direction.

Wow that is so cool that she smiled and waved at you Bob. Everyone in the crowd seemed to be craving contact with her, for her to smile directly at them or wave at them personally, so that is really cooler than cool. IP: Logged |

Great concert well worth the 6 hours it took me to drive there. I was stood on the front row directly in front of the woman with the Tequila. The sound was fine there. I thought it was a bit dodgy during the sound check and PJ kept asking for more vocal but it was nice to be able to watch. All the people around me seemed very friendly, much better than a lot of the gigs I've been to. Hopefully the Tate concert will be just as good. IP: Logged |

Welcome D'lilah! You may well have been standing right near me at the gig! I was just thinking how it's funny that we are all chatting to each other on the forum when some of us could (and may have) met each other at the actual Eden site without knowing it! For those who were there do you remember any of the banter from the crowd? Previously mentioned was the bizarre Dolly Parton exclamation. Does anyone also remember everyone shouting out song requests and then a guy in the front shouting back "Polly is not a jukebox, you know?!" IP: Logged |

For those who were interested in the Eden pics and reviews there's been a bit of an update on Angelene's website http://heela.org/aplaceofhome/wired/current.html These last two pics from my set were added http://heela.org/aplaceofhome/wired/gigography/europe/2003/eden/pjh20030815eden127.jpg http://heela.org/aplaceofhome/wired/gigography/europe/2003/eden/pjh20030815eden111.jpg There are new contributions of photos (including Polly in her infamous pink flop flops ) and reviews from other fans. I'd also like to take this space to thank Angelene for her hard work editing and arranging my pics and for hosting them on her site for me! I really appreciate your efforts!

aw. you caught me just while I was updating (well, actually, I added the pics last night, but then I was so tired and flimsy-minded that I forgot to mention it in the news section). the traffic on the site (counter-wise only) has tripled in the past week, I just hope ms des (heela.org's owner) -- who so kindly hosts me -- isn't going into trouble for that. [edit: come to think of it, melankolic, could you please edit your post to have links to the photographs rather than the photograph itself? it's okay for you to post them here, so that people can easily view/locate the new pics, of course, but if you post links only the people who want to see them will be able to see them, &we will not have bandwidth consumption by mere page reloads/refreshes. do you think you can do that? I'm sure my host would be really thankful. sorry to be a bother, but, y'know, I'm a guest myself @heela.org. ] thanks again to you, melankolic, for sending me your stunning pics. and to whoever is sharing their after-show thoughts. How did she react to the Dolly Parton comment?Did she talk to the audience a lot? What did she say? Which song(s) really got the crowd going? IP: Logged |

She just responded with "Dolly Paarton?!" in a kind of half stunned, half amused way Did she talk to the audience a lot? What did she say? Which song(s) really got the crowd going?
She didn't say a lot really though there was one guy at the beginning who tried to strike up a conversation with her after Dress was played. He shouted out something like "You've been practicing, much better than Sydney!" at which point Polly looked over to see who was talking and recognised this person. I'm paraphrasing of course but she said something like "Oh you're the orthodonist, I remember you" then he went into a spiel about a book he had recommended to her and asked if she'd read it yet .. something like that I don't know what other people think but from my own point of view I thought Good Fortune, Snake, Big Exit, Man-size, Me Jane, A Place Called Home and Rid of Me seemed to get the crowd going about the most though there was a good buzz through the whole set even on the songs some people were less familiar with. I was a little disappointed that PJ didn't sing the "lick my legs, I'm on fire, Lick my legs, of desire" part of Rid of Me and instead left it up to the audience to fill in. Audience participation is good but I really wanted to hear her howl through those high notes live! Maybe next time...

I was also disappointed that she didn't sing that bit as well; usually a highlight as far as I'm concerned. Still, she may do tonight at the Tate? Fingers crossed.Whatever, the Eden gig was as close to perfection as you could get.
