I did! Stunning performance from PJ! I actually caught her soundcheck at around 4pm (warming up by singing 'Who the F*ck' in front of the families and children well and a few other songs)! I actually took some photos at the soundcheck (Polly was wearing a denim top & skirt with flip flops ) but me being the idiot I am I accidentally deleted them when trying to delete another picture! Fortunately a friend I was with also took a few pics so with any luck they will come out okay (fingers crossed)! After this soundcheck I was a bit stunned to bump into PJ walking around the Eden site! As she was rapidly approaching me I just plucked up the courage and said "Hi Polly". To my relief she replied "Hi there" but she seemed to be in some direct path and didn't stop or really look at me when she answered... Still better than nothing, and judging by a couple of the 'fans' at her performance later in the evening (i.e. some are a tiny bit obsessive and mental) I don't blame her for being a little standoffish! The show itself was amazing! I enjoyed Elbow's support performance too. Polly played a really good mix of old and new material ... though unless I was too mesmerised by her outfit to notice I don't think she played Teclo (Wolfie are you sure)? I have a ton of photos from the evening performance and they aren't bad at all so if anyone can give me some webspace I can post them here on the message forum. Any offers? Oh Bilbo, now I've seen your picture I think I actually might have seen you there! I wasn't certain it was you though so sorry I didn't come up and introduce myself! Do you have a longer goatee beard now and were you in the front row on the right side of the stage???

I do mantain a PJ On Tour site [ http://heela.org/aplaceofhome -- following peej on tour since 2000] and I would be very glad to post your pictures there for everybody to see, if you'd like (you'll get full credit for taking them, of course!). email me at ignifera @ libero.it (remove the blank spaces), so we can work out the details. also, I've posted your reviews on the site, hope you don't mind! I like gathering reviews from fans posted on public forums, like this, so they aren't 'lost' in time, but of course I will remove them if the original poster asks me to [This message has been edited by angelene (edited 16 August 2003).] IP: Logged |

Sure, I'll send you my photos later but they are quite large (both in filesize and resolution) so we'll have to work out how to do this. I didn't realise you were going to put my comments on your site I would have tried to write something better had I known
Btw, I also saw your summary of the setlist people are trying to remember. I think I posted a pretty accurate list of the songs that were played here http://pjharvey.net/ubb/Forum3/HTML/000308.html though they are way out of sequence with exception the opening and closing songs which I remember for sure.

it was ROM heavy. great stuff. man-size, 50ft, missed, hook, rid of me, snake, me-jane... off Stories: good fortune, a place called home (muscular, beautiful), big exit (chorus was a bit ropey), whores (wow) TBYML: TBYML (with a Doorsy twist)i think i'm a mother (brilliant) ITD: Angelene (mmmmmmmmmmmmmm) New stuff: who the **** (they just dialled up another twister ), shame (great tune) hendrixy one (flying? - i was), 'my arms are empty', 'there's nothing here for you now' - just some remembered bits, was expecting 'desperate kingdom' but it never arrived. really looking forward to the new album on hearing this lot... apart from big exit, it was cooking. the three-piece line-up doesn't over clutter the sound picture - rotary rhythm, interlocking riffage, yummy yum all good. i think eden need to double the size of the p.a. so they can up the volume levels but not at the expense of vocal clarity. facing the stage i was halfway up the right-hand delay tower and the outfit was ...uh...um...uh... *rendered speechless* [This message has been edited by bob (edited 17 August 2003).] [This message has been edited by bob (edited 17 August 2003).] IP: Logged |

Yeah Melankolic I was in the very front row to the right side of the stage and I do have a longer beard now. I was lucky enough to catch the soundcheck that afternoon too. She played Good Fortune and Me Jane the whole way through, the first half of Dress, and parts of Man-Size, To Bring You My Love, The Whores Hustle And The Hustlers Whore and a few others. It was a truly brilliant night that I didn’t want to let go of. She looked so fantastic. Tanned, healthy, more curvy than before, wearing her trusty black leather boots and her hair straightened again but without the fringe. That outfit was simply jaw-dropping. To call it a micro-mini is understating it a bit! Even with the highest respect for her talent, you couldn’t help but think “My God, she really does have incredible legs” (one particularly amorous woman shouted out “I wanna lick your legs Polly!”). I can’t see the photos posted here so am looking forward to seeing them soon. I’ve been looking around on sites like nme.com but to my surprise haven’t been able to find any official press reviews, let alone concert pics! Water was mind-blowing, Good Fortune was truly joyous, Missed was out of this world. I Think I’m A Mother is one of those songs that grows stronger with every listen, especially live; it was hypnotic. As for the two new songs, Who The Fuk is thrilling, all punk-diva falsetto whooping and hollering over a taut guitar riff and jungle-style beat. At least superficially comparable to early tracks like Me Jane, 50Ft Queenie or Snake, or the 1995 B-side One Time Too Many. Great fun and addictively catchy, especially the “I’m not like other girls” hook. Pure raw energy... Shame was excellent too. Very short and quick, they kinda rushed through it just as I was getting into it, but extremely promising of what’s to come. Again it had a simple, bluesy guitar sound and lean, mean rhythm. What I could gather from the lyrics sounded very poetic, bittersweet and emotionally charged, ending with “If you tell a lie I’ll still take the blame/But if you pass me by it’s such a shame, shame, shame”. This was instantly catchy too so I wouldn’t be too surprised if it was eventually released as a single off the new album, maybe even the first single? Her vocals and guitar work was equally stunning. Her mastery and command of the guitar on every song blew me away (above all on the closing number Ecstacy, which left me reeling and staggering out of the Eden Project). Special credit also to Rob Ellis whose drumming was amazing. He is so fast, fierce and powerful behind the drum kit, one of the best drummers I’ve ever seen. A few people criticised the sound mix for being too quiet, but the whole thing sounded great to me. I can’t believe she played for a full two hours and did 23 songs! 23! Opening set by Manchester band Elbow was highly impressive too, particularly Newborn. Here’s the full setlist from http://www.pollyharvey.co.uk 15th AUG 2003 - Eden Project - ST AUSTELL, CORNWALL, UK To Bring You My Love Dress Good Fortune Oh My Lover 50 Ft Queenie Missed Joe Snake Water Big Exit Who The Fuk Sweeter Than Anything I Think I'm A Mother Man-Size Me Jane The Whores Hustle And The Hustlers Whore ------------ Angelene A Place Called Home The Dancer Rid Of Me ------------ Shame Hook Ecstasy IP: Logged |

I was in the front row as well, but on the left side of the stage. If you noticed some guy kept staring across at you from there that was probably me I was trying to work out if it was you or not! I still am not certain but from your description it sounds as if it was! I think I also saw you in the queue before they opened the gate to the stage... Well anyway, sorry for not introducing myself. I just thought if it isn't you I am gonna look a complete idiot Wasn't it amazing to catch that soundcheck?! I couldn't believe it when I strolled over there in the afternoon to see Polly there! I took photos and bloody deleted them by accident! I could kill myself for that I think that is why when I realised what I had done I ended taking such a ridiculous amount in the evening to compensate.

I'm not usually one for message boards but I feel I owe it to Melankolic to write and say thank you for these pictures.I travelled down from London to see PJ @ Eden; it was only when I got to Plymouth I realised I'd left my camera at home. You can imagine how angry I was with myself when she came onstage. It was the third time I've seen PJ and the best by a country mile; two hours; two encores; that fantastic dress; it doesn't get any better than that. In fact, that's all I could say from 10pm onwards, every few minutes I'd be like 'It doesn't get any better than this'. Roll on Tate Modern. I doubt it'll be as good. Eden was a pretty high standard. What do you guys reckon? IP: Logged |

I can well imagine! I'm sure I felt much the same when I saw PJ's soundcheck, took some 'once in a lifetime' type pics and then later realised I had accidentally deleted them! Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!

Hi, I've got tons of pics from the Gig, can supply. My first time seeing PJ and it really was a great night. I was close to the front and fairly central, maybe a little toward stage right but had a great view. The set list was just great, I didnt go much on Elbow tbh - was a bit slow and sad for my taste, so when PJ came on and powered her way through that set it was just what was needed Anyway, Im glad the gig made the same impression on so many of the rest of the folks who have posted above, and also that it prompted me to search the web for a decent PJ forum and get signed up!
