PJ Harvey will compose the score for Ian Rickson’s production of The Nest, premiering at the Lyric Theatre, Belfast in October ahead of a London run in the Young Vic’s Maria theatre.

Caoilfhionn Dunne will play Martha and Laurence Kinlan will play Kurt in a new translation of Franz Xaver Kroetz’s play by Conor McPherson, the award-winning writer of The Weir.

Questioning the moral cost of an increasingly materialistic society, Ian Rickson’s production draws out the sharp relevance of this urgent and timely two-hander.

With an original score composed by PJ Harvey, and recorded by Harvey in collaboration with James Johnston, this fable of individualism will premiere at the Lyric Theatre, Belfast 1– 22 October before a London run in the Young Vic’s Maria theatre from 28 October – 26 November.

Director Ian Rickson and PJ Harvey reunite following collaborations including Hamlet at the Young Vic in 2011, as well as Hedda Gabler at the American Airlines Theatre, New York in 2009 and Electra at the Old Vic in 2014.

Design for The Nest is by Alison Cummings, with light by Zia Holly, sound by Gregory Clarke and movement by Andy Dawson. The original score is engineered by Adam ‘Cecil’ Bartlett and recorded in London, England.
